SPACE for
Changing Families is one of National Council of Jewish Women,
Greater Detroit Section’s largest community service programs. SPACE for Changing Families was established in 1978 to assist
individuals and families in transition.
Today, more than 200 individuals are served each
year through this vital community service. SPACE offers educational support
groups for all families and family members. Some groups are structured, while
others are not. SPACE support groups are affective because they are made up of people
experiencing a similar situation.
SPACE offers Bereavement support groups for adults.
Other workshops and support groups are
developed as needs emerge.
A trained, caring facilitator leads each group
session. Safe structured groups in which
participants and facilitators work together for four to ten consecutive weeks
begin every few months.
SPACE works in coalition with 15 other
community agencies to educate the community regarding bereavement issues. SPACE
also offers specialized services to community groups, schools, synagogues and
churches, and training to corporations.
For more information or to enroll in any of
the groups SPACE offers, please call (248) 355-9936.
SPACE for Changing Families is a
non-sectarian service. The majority of funding comes from the National Council
of Jewish Women, Greater Detroit Section. Funding is also received from the
DeRoy Testamentary Fund, donations, tributes and participant fees.
